Regulatory affairs and authorisations for animal foods

Animal foods are complete or balanced foods, supplements, additives or ingredients intended for oral animal consumption with the purpose of safeguarding, maintaining and increasing animal health and welfare, without causing harm to the environment or human health.

Medicated food is a complete food or supplement to which one or more medications have been added by veterinary medical prescription.

General procedures

  • Communication of the activity beginning developed by the establishment, be it import, export, production, storage or packaging for animal feed.
  • Communication of modification of the declaration of activity or closure of the establishment.
  • Advice on compliance with structural and operational requirements for establishments that sell, store and transport animal feed.
  • Design and revision of packaging labels for complete foods, supplements, additives and ingredients under labeling requirements.

Advice on:

  • Producing and storage establishments
  • Development and implementation and, the documentary management of the Self-Control Program, based on the quality assurance principles (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points [HACCP]) for production and storage establishments.
  • Preparation of Technical Data Sheets for complete foods, supplements, ingredients of animal origin, additives and formulated additives over-the-counter.
  • Labelling containers for complete food, supplements, additives and ingredients, medicated and on-demand foods.
  • Labelling projects for complete foods for dogs and cats according to Chilean standard NCh2546.Of2019.
  • Structural and operational requirements for medicated food factories for animal feed.
  • Authorised ingredients for animal foods or supplements production.
  • Structural and operational requirements for factories of animal origin ingredients destined for animal feed.
  • Maximum limits of biological and chemical contaminants in supplies intended for animal feed.
  • Requirements for storage, retail and transportation.

Importing establishments

  • Communication of initiation or closure of activities as an importing establishment.
  • Request for evaluation of the Production Process Monographs for additives, formulated additives, complete foods, food supplements, ingredients of plant or mineral origin destined for productive and non-productive species. For the import authorisation of an animal origin ingredient, the enabling of foreign establishments is required.
  • Request for modification of the Process Monograph approval resolution for productive and non-productive species (variations of qualitative composition, trade name or species, and company name).
  • Labelling projects for complete foods for dogs and cats according to the Chilean standard NCh2546.Of2019.
  • Import permits for supplies samples without commercial value for animal feed trials.

Exporting establishments

  • Communication of the start of activities as an animal food producer establishment to be inscribed on National Animal Food Manufacturers Establishments List [LENAA].
  • Application for inscription on Exporting Establishments for Animal Food List [LEEAA].
  • Request to issue a Free Sale Certificate [FSC] for export.
